Sex

The rate of people having addiction to alcohol is increasing significantly throughout the world. There are various factors that are leading people towards alcohol addiction and the rate is likely to increase further in the coming days. However it is important to mention here that the major percentage of people having alcohol addiction are men. In fact the ratio of percentage of alcoholic addicted men and women is just 5:1. Do you know the reason behind this difference? Perhaps you don't. Well, difference of sex is the main reason behind that. Sex plays a major role in developing alcohol addiction in a person and that's why it is considered as one of the major risk factors for alcoholism.

While mentioning about sex as a factor for alcohol addiction one has to say about the genetic factor. It is due to the make up of gene in the body of a man and a woman that that there is a significant difference in the rate of alcoholic addicted men and women. The genetic make up in the body of a man is different from that of a woman. Besides, the rate of secretion of hormone like the endorphin from the pituitary gland is more in men than women.

Endorphin is a type of hormone which instructs the brain to repeat a function and again and again. As the rate of endorphin secretion in men's body is more than women, they get addicted to alcohol more quickly.

Sex also plays a major role in determining the alcohol withstanding capacity in people. Men have got a greater alcohol withstanding power than women. Though the percentage of women drinker is increasing rapidly throughout the world, they are still not as fascinated about consumption of alcohol as the men are. In an office party or a social program you will find the men more excited about the hard drinks being served than the women. This is also an effect of the difference of sex.

One must not forget to mention about family history. Members of family having a history of alcohol addiction are found to be more prone to alcohol consumption. But if you observe a male and a female member of a family with a long history of alcohol consumption you will find that the male member are more addicted towards the liquor. This is because the gene of the alcohol addicted parents work more on their male child than on the female child.
