Summit Centers Malibu

Summit Centers Malibu was an alcohol and drug rehabilitation facility in Malibu, California. It formed a close partnership with the UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Program and the Matrix Institute of Addictions. The center offered residential treatment programs for individuals suffering from substance abuse. The center?s programs specialize in treating addictions to alcohol, prescription drugs, cocaine, meth, opiates, benzodiazepines, and club drugs such as GHB and Ecstasy. The complex was nestled in the Santa Monica mountains and overlooked the famed Malibu coastline, home to many Hollywood celebrities. Big names like Ben Cousins, a well-known Australian rules footballer from Perth, Western Australia, chose this place because the canyon location at the end of a long private road ensured privacy.

Summit Centers Malibu, a caring, non-judgmental, luxurious alcohol rehabilitation center, maintained a close staff to client ratio at a rate of 4:1, and the small facility could support residential service for up to twelve clients at any given time.

Treatment options included:
an initial assessment
a complete psychiatric evaluation
treatment planning
individual counseling
group therapy
cognitive behavioral therapy
relapse prevention
12-step program of treatment
a family treatment program.

Dual diagnosis for those suffering from both alcohol or drug addiction and at least one other pre-existing psychological disorder was available at Summit Centers Malibu. Medical and psychiatric staff was available for the diagnosis and treatment of addiction and other disorders. Although there were no pre-determined program lengths, most clients remain at the center for an average of 30 to 45 days.

Summit Malibu served gourmet meals and nutritious snacks each day. It also had panoramic outdoor meditation space, heated swimming pools and spas and walking trails for every fitness level.

A disrupted relationship between Summit Centers Malibu and the UCLA led the latter to remove Summit Centers from its website and stop referring clients to them. Consequently, the Summit Centers closed down on Dec 31 2007. However, a couple of Summit Centers Malibu employees are striving to carry on the tradition of compassionate, effective treatment of drug and alcohol abuse.
