History of Phoenix House
Established in the year 1967, Phoenix House has been providing a helping hand to people of all ages from different backgrounds in living a drug-free, fulfilling, happy life. Phoenix House has its operations in over 30 residential and outpatient programs for adolescents and adults in New York City, Long Island, and upstate New York, treating nearly 2,500 people daily. This non-profit organization operates in nine states.

The organization started when six heroin addicts, came together for sharing a home in New York City. Psychiatrist Mitchell S. Rosenthal, M.D., the President of Phonix House, along with the help of addiction counselors from Addiction Services Agency (ASA) in New York City, formed up a treatment program for the group.

The group proved successful in their attempt in breaking the patterns of drug addiction. The different community members strengthened each other?s efforts all throughout the course of long-term residential treatment.

Working Procedure of Phoenix House
The introductory therapeutic model of the organization became the basis of treatment method in Phoenix House, which has helped more than 150,000 patients. Long-term studies prove that 75 percent of those people who complete the rehabilitation program remain drug free throughout their life, as to the substantial number of those people who leave the program before the completion term.

Phoenix House, or currently Phoenix Futures, is till date the largest nonprofit recovery and rehabilitation organization in the US, helping more than 6,000 people every day at treatment centers in Florida, California, Maine, New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Texas.

Phoenix House Treatment Programs
The treatment programs offered by Phoenix House include:

Phoenix Academies for residential high school teens in recovery.
Phoenix adult residential recovery centers
Outpatient programs
After-school programs for teens
Programs for mother with small children
Program for prison inmates and mentally sick people

The organization is financed mostly by government contracts, and at times it also receives philanthropic support for a section of its $100 million yearly budget.
