Charles Bukowski was born on 16th August in the year 1920 in Andernach, Germany. His mother is a ntive German and his father was a German-American. Charles Bukowski was christened as Heinrich Karl Bukowski. When German economy collapsed after World War I Charles Bukowski's family moved to America in Baltimore and later after saving some money the moved to a suburb of Los Angeles. He graduated from Los Angeles High School and went to Los Angeles City College. Studying here Charles Bukowski had a short term association with a group of Nazis. Due to this association he was arrested by FBI agents and was held in prison for 17days on suspicion of draft evasion.

Charles Bukowski began his writing career at the age of 24 with the short story Aftermath of a Lengthy Rejection Slip. He also wrote many short stories and later quited writing for a decade. Later when he suffered from a bleeding ulcer an was hospitalized he again took up writing. He got married to writer and poet Barbara Frye and two years later they got divorced. After his divorce Charles Bukowski again began to write poetry and resumed his drinking habit.
