This ex third baseman in Major League Baseball was also known for his drinking excesses. Born on 15th June, 1958, in Omaha, Nebraska, was associated mainly with the Boston Red Sox. His hitting skills in the period of 1980s and 1990s made him a consistent contender for the batting titles of American League. Wade Anthony Boggs was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in the year 2005. He made 12 straight All-Star appearances and stands only third to Brooks Robinson and George Brett in making back to back appearances as a third baseman. In his very first season he recorded career highs in RBI(89), HR(24), and slugging percentage(.588). In that very same season, his debut season, he held a .461 OBP while batting .363. Both these statistics were the leading in the league. At present, he is the resident of Tampa, Florida.

This left handed hitter acquired five batting titles beginning in the year 1983. He almost won the batting title in his very first year, but fell short by 121 plate appearances. From the year 1982 to 1988, Wade Boggs hit below .349 only one time, in the year 1984. From the year 1983 to 1989, Wade Boggs had seven back to back seasons where he gathered 200 or more hits, a record in the American League. It was matched later by Ichiro Suzuki of Seattle. He had six seasons featuring 200 or more hits, 100+ runs and 40+ doubles. Though he was not able to win a batting title after the year 1988, he often featured among the list of the leading hitters. After joining the New York Yankees in early 1990s, Wade Boggs received two Gold Glove Awards for his perfect defense. In the year 1996, Wade Boggs assisted the Yankees to win their first World Series title in 18 long years. Some of the high points of his career are:

Wade Boggs was an iconic drinker, and it has been reported that while on a cross country flight from Logan Airport to LAX, he drank more than 50 beers.
