David Boon is a noted Australian cricketer, and he is well known for his excellent cricketing skills as well as his love for alcohol. It has been famously reported that David Boon had downed 52 cans of beer while on a flight within the city of Sydney and the city of London, before Australia's Ashes triumph. This triumph helped Australia to regain the Ashes after a long period of five years. Besides being a fecund batsman, David Boon was also a very notorious drinker. David Boon has always been a crowd favorite, at home or while on tour.

Life and career of David Boon
Born on 29th December, 1960, in Launceston, Tasmania, this former Australian cricketer had a great impact on the international cricket scenario in the 1980s and the 1990s. David Boon was a right handed opening batsman and he fielded at the position of short leg. David Boon became like a cult figure figure because of his character which was very colorful and jolly. He was nicknamed 'Boony'. This mustached Australian batsman was given the moniker of “Dead-set Legend” at the ABC comedy show. His vomiting on the Adelaide Oval ground in 1998, in a WSC game is famously remembered. The match was watched by a live television audience comprising a million. He scored a century in the match and was declared the Man Of The Match. He took an active role in singing team songs, and also became popular for his drinking bouts.

Jokingly, David Boon is known as the “Keg on Legs” due to his exploits on the field and off the field, both for his cricketing skills as well as his preference for alcohol. Recently, David Boon was projected as the face of Victoria Bitter (VB) beer for summer advertising drive in 2005-06. The advertising campaign was called Boonanza. The promotional campaign comprised the sale of a figurine of a talking David Boon along with beer purchases. The campaign had its share of luck when it came to controversies. However, the image of this famous Australian cricketer was not dented at all.

David Boon has played 107 tests and 181 one day internationals scoring 7,422 and 5,946 runs, respectively. He had scored 21 test centuries and 5 ODI centuries. He scored 32 half centuries in tests and 37 half centuries in ODIs. He was a brilliant fielder and took 99 test catches and 45 one day catches.

David Boon will always be remembered as a great batsman, and also as an iconic drinker.
