About André the Giant
André the Giant was a professional wrestler who hailed from the country of France. Born Andre Rene Roussimoff, this professional wrestler made a great impact in the world of professional wrestling. Because of his huge physic he was called André the Giant, and his large frame enabled him to consume generous amount of alcohol. Besides being well known for his wrestling skills, he was notorious as a drinker too. He has had some notable drinking feats, including the consumption of 119 beers within six hours, and drinking almost 7000 calories each day. He had been involved in a number of noted wrestling matches and he also became the world champion.

Born on 19th May, 1946, André the Giant was believed to be more than 6 ft 10 in tall. His huge frame was due to a state known as acromegaly, and it led him to be called “The Eighth Wonder of the World.” In World Wrestling Federation (WWF), André the Giant was the champion and inn the year 1993, he received the honor of becoming the first inductee in WWE Hall of Fame. He ruled the ring during the 1970s and 80s, and one of his most famous matches was that with Hulk Hogan in the year 1987 at the grand stage of WrestleMania III.

Life and career of André the Giant
Though Roussimoff was a good student he quit studies after the eighth grade. He tried his hands in various things but none gave him satisfaction. A wrestling promoter, Lord Alfred Hayes, discovered him and André the Giant left his home for Paris in his teens in order to pursue wrestling as a career. During the day, he sweated out as a mover for paying his expenses and trained at night. As no wrestlers was willing to train André the Giant for his huge size, he could not get professional help. However, in the year 1964, a reputed French wrestler Edouard Carpentier agreed to be the trainer of André the Giant. He quickly learned the ropes of the profession and started earning a name for himself. By the time he reached the age of 21, he became a wrestling star in Europe. He wrestled in various arenas and carnivals in Africa and Europe.

André the Giant made his debut in WWF in the year 1973 as a “good guy”, triumphing over Buddy Wolf in New York's famous Madison Square Garden. He achieved stupendous success as a wrestler. André the Giant passed away in the year 1993.
