Judy Garland was an American film actress and a singer who was quite known for her drinking habits. Born on June 10, 1922 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, United States, Judy Garland came to the fame for her wonderful acting skills in both musical as well as dramatic roles. She was also pretty popular as a recording artist as well. In spite of her huge success in professional world, Judy Garland also had to battle out a few personal problems throughout her life. She was very much addicted to alcohol. She was insecure about her appearance, film executives also compounded her feelings by saying that she was unattractive and overweight. Judy Garland also used drugs in order to control her weight and increase her productivity. Judy Garland has to pay a lot for her addiction to alcohol. A hugely talented actress and singer, Judy Garland died on June 22, 1969, at the age of 47 only.

The Early Days
Born to a family of vaudeville performers, Judy Garland was into stage shows since her early childhood. At the age of three, Judy Garland made her stage debut. She appeared in “The Gumm Sisters Kiddie Act” with her two oder sisters. At the age of 13, Judy Garland signed an MGM contract. In 1936, she appeared in her first film “Every Sunday” where she played opposite to the then rising vocal star Deanna Durbin. But “Broadway Melody of 1938” was the film that made her prominent in public eye in the year 1937 where she portrayed the role of a young Clark Gable.

The Career
Ever since her first film was released, Judy Garland continuously acted in several films which became pretty popular. In her early career, she made a number of films with Mickey Rooney including Love Finds Andy Hardy (1938) and Babes in Arms (1939). But she came to fame with her performance in the film The Wizard of Oz (1939) where she won an honorary Oscar for her outstanding performance. But she had to pay heavily for her success. She got addicted for alcohol. She started gaining weight. However, she continued to deliver successful films like Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), The Harvey Girls (1946), Easter Parade (1948), Summer Stock (1950) etc.

Though Judy Garland continuously produced successful films, she got addicted to alcohol. It paid heavily for her. She started gaining weight, she also got addicted to drugs. Her marriages faltered time and again. She even tried to commit suicide a few times. Finally, on June 22,1969, Judy Garland died of overdose of sleeping pills.
