Michael Andrew McKagan, popularly known as Duff McKagan, is a popular American musician and rock bassist. Born on February 5, 1964, Duff McKagan became famous for his association with the hard rock band “Gun N' Roses” for thirteen years. Currently associated with another hard rock band “Velvet Revolver” as the bassist, Duff McKagan has loads of experience in all sorts of rock including hard rock, punk rock, hardcore punk, and alternative rock etc. Released a number of popular and hit albums, Duff McKagan has also been addicted to alcohol and has also been known for his weakness on that. Though a consistent performer, Duff McKagan has already suffered a lot for this bad habit.

The Early Days
Born in Seattle, Washington, Duff McKagan, then known as Michael Andrew McKagan, was the youngest of the eight children of Elmer and Alice McKagan. Born in a musical Irish family where every member of the family used to play at least on instrument, Duff McKagan started learning bass guitar from his brother Bruce. Though Duff McKagan was known for his skills in bass guitar, he also played drums in many bands including a stint with the famous Seattle pop-punk band the Fastbacks. He joined there in 1980, at the age of 16 years. Duff McKagan also played hardcore punk bands like The Farts, Silly Killers, and guitar in 10 Minute Warning. At the age of nineteen, while replying to an advertisement for a bass player in the local magazine, Duff McKagan moved to California.

The Career
Duff McKagan has been known for his association with the band Guns N' Roses for the long thirteen years. Duff was the bassist of the band, replacing Ole Beich. Duff McKagan also handled lead vocals there and sung various popular numbers like Use Your Illusion II's So Fine and many other songs. Duff McKagan has been a huge fan of Sex Pistols, Ramones and The Clash, he brought his punk rock influences to the group in Guns N' Roses. Later on, Duff McKagan also worked for various other bands like “Mad For the Racket” etc.
