An important change also came in 1996 when he joined the National Advisory Council on Drug Abuse as a permanent member of this organization. There also he has worked in a greatly dedicated manner and all of his works have great value to the society and a burning problem like alcoholism.

He also studied and researched on the psychological effects of sustained drug and alcohol abuse among the patients. He was awarded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in the year 2001. This award was given to him for his great contribution in the subjects related to the abuses of alcohol and the ways to get rid out of it. He also stressed on the counseling of the patients rather than the medicines that are generally prescribed to them.
