As a result of taking too much alcohol different organs of the gastrointestinal organ suffer from various kinds of diseases among which, bleeding or perforated ulcers, acute pancreatitis, liver cancer are very common. The liver is the most affected organ due to alcohol consumption. Due to alcoholism cirrhosis of the liver can take place. In the initial stage of cirrhosis of the liver the liver cells gets damaged and tiny droplets of fat accumulate in the liver. Gradually more and more cells develop fat deposits the liver gets enlarged. If the person suffering from this kind of liver continues on taking alcohol then
scar formation occurs on the liver. Gradually the scar formation becomes more. The person suffering from cirrhosis of liver tends to develop ammonia and bilirubin, which are considered "poisons" in the bloodstream. Apart from this the alcoholic person can develop several other problems like, accumulation of estrogen in the bloodstream and possible impotence. The development of low levels of prothrombin results in bleeding and bruising tendencies. Besides these problems, esophageal varix develops and swelling of ankles and legs takes place.
